After we initially determined to show the narrative of returning to reality by providing real sensory experience. We enter into the discussion of what type of project is placed in and what form to display. Yixuan and I have worked together on a color and mood project, in which I have experimentally explored projection and tried the influence of light on immersion. The special effect space constructed by the projection helps us to shape the virtual space and introduce the real sensory experience. Therefore, I proposed that we can use the form of projection and equipment to build our project. But the effects of projection and light are really difficult to experience only by dictation and let my team members understand how this form shapes immersion. So I pulled out the previous works and used home projection to make a short and crude display for them. Although it is not exactly what I imagined, it still conveys the outstanding sensory stimulation of projection and light to them. Of course, this presentation is still not enough to persuade us to adopt this form. Even I did not fully affirm my imagination.
I would like to thank Christopher Fry for his suggestions in the tutorial. He suggested that we can do more research on projection, light and shadow art, and cited James Turrell’s work as a reference. This reminds Yixuan and I of our previous research on his work Ganzfelds, especially the branch content Dhatu. At the same time, Bowen also recognized the use of projection and installation as the presentation medium of our works through Turrell’s excellent use of light and shadow.
